Translation
WP Job Portal follows your site’s language setting. It ships with translations for several languages, and you can add your own translation or change the wording of any text on the job board.
Languages included
Section titled “Languages included”The plugin comes with translation files for these languages:
| Language | Locale |
|---|---|
| Arabic | ar |
| Chinese (China) | zh_CN |
| French (France) | fr_FR |
| German | de_DE |
| Greek | el |
| Italian | it_IT |
| Japanese | ja_JP |
| Portuguese (Brazil) | pt_BR |
| Russian | ru_RU |
| Spanish (Spain) | es_ES |
To use one, set Site Language in Settings → General in WordPress.
Add or change a translation
Section titled “Add or change a translation”The plugin’s text domain is wp-job-portal. A template with every string, wp-job-portal.pot, is in the plugin’s languages folder.
- Create a translation from
wp-job-portal.potwith a translation editor, for your locale (for examplenl_NL). - Save the compiled file as
wp-job-portal-nl_NL.mo. - Upload it to
wp-content/languages/plugins/.
WP Job Portal looks in wp-content/languages/plugins/ first, then in its own languages folder. A file you put in wp-content/languages/plugins/ therefore wins over the bundled one, and plugin updates don’t overwrite it.
If there is no file for the full locale, it also tries the language code alone, for example wp-job-portal-ar.mo for any Arabic locale.
Translate text you entered yourself
Section titled “Translate text you entered yourself”Field titles and the values of your lists come from your database, not from the plugin files, but WP Job Portal still passes them through its wp-job-portal translation. To translate one, such as a custom field title “Notice period” or a job type “Full-Time”, add it as a string in your .mo file, spelled exactly as you entered it.
This covers:
- Field titles, including custom fields and their options.
- The options of every drop-down built from your lists: categories and subcategories, job types, job status, career levels, highest education and salary range types. Add a subcategory by its name alone, without the
|-marker it has in drop-downs. - Category, job type and salary period (for example “Per Month”) in job lists and on job pages.
Job titles, company names and other text people type into a form are not translated.
Paid products
Section titled “Paid products”Pro and the suites carry text of their own. Each has its own text domain: wp-job-portal-pro, wp-job-portal-marketplacesuite, wp-job-portal-recruitsuite and wp-job-portal-matchingsuite. Much of the text they add to the job board screens still uses wp-job-portal, so translate both.
