Import demo data

Sample data fills a new job board with example companies, jobs, resumes and applications, so you can see every screen working before you add your own. It is added in the setup wizard and can be removed again later.

Every site gets the same core set:

Record What is added
Company One hiring company.
Jobs Six jobs in different categories.
Resume One resume.
Applications Three applications from that resume.

The set grows to match what your site can show:

  • With Marketplace Suite, two more companies with four more jobs, and some of the sample companies and jobs are featured.
  • With Pro, a second resume and one more application.

The sample content is built to fit your site. Categories, job types and cities are taken from your own lists, so they match the country and language you set up. The companies are fictional, their addresses use example.com, and their logos ship with the plugin rather than being downloaded.

  1. Go to WP Job Portal → Setup & Mode.
  2. Select Sample Data in the list of steps.
  3. Set Insert Sample Data to Yes.
  4. Choose a Sample Employer. This user owns the sample companies and jobs and sees them in the employer dashboard.
  5. Choose a Sample Job Seeker. This user owns the sample resumes and applications and sees them in the job seeker dashboard.
  6. Select Next Step.

Both owners are required, and they must be different users; one account cannot be both. Choosing an existing WordPress user gives them the WP Job Portal profile for that role. No WordPress user is ever created by the import. If you need new accounts, select Add new user, create them on the WordPress Users screen, then come back.

The Setup Complete screen names the two owners. Sign in as each one to see the employer side and the job seeker side.

  1. Go to WP Job Portal → Setup & Mode.
  2. Scroll to Sample-data safety and find Who owns the sample data.
  3. Choose a new user next to Employer, Job seeker or both. Leave a role on Keep as it is to leave it unchanged.
  4. Select Change owner.

A message says how many sample records moved to the new owner. Records you have edited keep their current owner.

Clean-up removes only records the plugin marked as sample data when it created them. It never guesses from titles or content.

  1. Go to WP Job Portal → Setup & Mode.
  2. Under Sample-data safety, read the Cleanup preview. It lists companies, jobs, resumes, applications and pages, each as tracked, eligible and protected.
  3. Tick I understand that only the eligible, plugin-marked records in this preview will be removed.
  4. Select Clean marked sample data.

The result shows how many records were deleted, skipped and failed. Only administrators can run the clean-up.

Records are protected, and kept, when:

  • you have changed them since they were created
  • other records now depend on them, for example a real application to a sample job
  • the plugin’s tables do not use the InnoDB storage engine (see System Status)

Clean-up also keeps users, settings, payments, credits and uploaded files.

If your site uses the Job Portal Theme, its demos come from wpjobportal.com. Activate the theme and its Job Portal Theme Options plugin first; without them the demo screen says so and shows no list.

  1. Run the Sample Data step of the setup wizard and select Next Step. With the theme active, the demo importer opens next.
  2. Under Select the demo data to import, choose a demo.
  3. If a demo was imported before, choose What to do with previous demo data: Ignore and insert or Remove and insert.
  4. Select Get Demo.

If the list of demos cannot be loaded, check that the site can reach the internet, then reload the page.
