Moving from WP Job Manager
If your job board runs on WP Job Manager, WP Job Portal can copy its data across from the same WordPress site. The importer reads WP Job Manager’s records and creates matching WP Job Portal records; it does not change or delete anything in WP Job Manager.
What the importer brings across
Section titled “What the importer brings across”| Data | How it is imported |
|---|---|
| Users | Every WordPress user without a WP Job Portal profile gets one. The role comes from what the user posted in WP Job Manager: users who posted jobs become employers; users who posted resumes or applications become job seekers. Where a user posted both, the kind they posted much more of, or posted most recently, wins. Users who already have a WP Job Portal profile are left as they are. |
| Custom fields | Job fields added with WP Job Manager’s field editor become WP Job Portal custom fields. |
| Companies | Company listings become companies. A job with no company listing gets a company made from the company details saved with the job. |
| Categories and job types | Copied into your WP Job Portal lists. |
| Tags | Copied into WP Job Portal tags. |
| Jobs | Copied with their company, category, type, tags and custom fields. The expiry date becomes the stop publishing date. The location is matched to your city list, and the salary is read from the job. |
| Resumes | Copied with their owner. |
| Job applications | Copied, linked to the imported job and applicant. |
Before you import
Section titled “Before you import”- Back up your database.
- Keep WP Job Manager installed and active. The importer only offers it while it is active.
- Load the city list for the countries your jobs are in. Locations are matched against WP Job Portal’s cities, so a city that is not in the list cannot be matched. See Locations.
Run the import
Section titled “Run the import”- Go to WP Job Portal → Dashboard.
- In the WP Job Portal side menu, select Dashboard → Import Third Party Data.
- On the WP Job Manager row, select Fetch Data.
- Check the counts: jobs, companies, resumes, job applications, categories, job types, tags and fields found.
- Select Import Data.
Only an administrator can run the import. A large site can take a while; leave the page open until the report appears.
Check the results
Section titled “Check the results”When the import finishes, the Import Data Report lists each kind of record with three counts:
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Imported | New WP Job Portal records created. |
| Similar Found | Records skipped because they were imported before or already exist. |
| Not Imported | Records that could not be imported. |
The report reminds you to verify Locations and salaries for imported data entities. Open a few imported jobs under WP Job Portal → Jobs and check:
- the city, for jobs whose location did not match your city list
- the salary and salary type
- the company each job belongs to
- that the employers and job seekers have the right role, under Users
Running the import again skips records it has already imported, so it is safe to repeat after you fix something, for example after loading more cities.
In 2.7.0 the report’s tags row always shows every WP Job Manager tag under Not Imported and none under Similar Found, even when the tags were imported. To check the imported tags, open Tags in the WP Job Portal side menu instead.
When you are happy with the result, you can deactivate WP Job Manager.
