Smart Search & Matching overview
Smart Search & Matching helps job seekers and employers find each other without guessing the right keywords. It ranks search results by relevance, suggests jobs and resumes with no search at all, and shows how well a job fits a job seeker, or a resume fits an employer’s jobs.
Smart Search & Matching needs only the free WP Job Portal plugin, version 2.7.0 or later. The plugin is called WP Job Portal Matching Suite.

Everything runs on your server
Section titled “Everything runs on your server”Smart Search & Matching doesn’t call any outside service. Ranking happens in your own database, using the words in your jobs and resumes and a built-in list of words that mean the same thing, such as “programmer” and “developer”.
- No API key, account or provider to set up.
- No job or resume is sent to a third party.
- No per-search cost or rate limit.
It ranks by the words people use. It doesn’t read and reason about a job description the way a large language model does.
Set it up
Section titled “Set it up”- Install and activate WP Job Portal 2.7.0 or later.
- Install and activate WP Job Portal Matching Suite.
- Open WP Job Portal → Configurations → Feeds & AI and, under AI Suggested Matches, turn on the search and suggestion options you want. See AI search and Suggested jobs and resumes.
- Open WP Job Portal → Configurations → Smart Matching and choose where match scores show. See Smart matching and scores.
There’s nothing else to configure. Smart Search & Matching creates no database tables.
If WP Job Portal is older than 2.7.0, activation stops with a message asking you to update WP Job Portal first, and nothing on the site is changed.
Features that also need Pro
Section titled “Features that also need Pro”Some screens that Smart Search & Matching adds to belong to Pro:
- AI resume search appears on the resume search and resume listing screens, which come with Pro.
- The AI Job Search and AI Resume Search widgets ship with Pro’s widgets and appear only when Smart Search & Matching is active. The resume widget also needs Pro’s resume search.
AI job search, suggestions and match scores work with the free plugin.
Moving from the old add-ons
Section titled “Moving from the old add-ons”Smart Search & Matching replaces the AI Job Search, AI Resume Search, AI Suggested Jobs, AI Suggested Resumes and Smart Matching add-ons. While one of those add-ons is still active, the matching part of the suite stays off so the two don’t clash. Deactivate the old add-ons and Smart Search & Matching takes over, with the same results in the same order.
Licence
Section titled “Licence”Enter your activation key on the Plugins screen to get updates. The licence controls updates, downloads and support only. Features keep working if it lapses.
